Cotton Fabric

Cotton is a breathable fabric that allows our skin to cool. Cotton has always been one of my favorite fabrics, but as I got older it took on a whole new meaning for me. In some people getting older means losing the hormone that regulates the body temperature. This can happen with men and women although it is more common for women.  It is very uncomfortable to feel very warm and not be able to cool yourself down. This becomes more compounded by the type of material in which our clothes are made.  If surrounded by material that holds in moisture and heat it can become unbearable.

This is where cotton comes into play. It allows air flow through the material hence allowing evaporation and helping to cool the skin.  Don't get me wrong, nothing will help a hot flash, but if your body is enveloped in plastic such as spandex or even just a shirt that has a painted on emblem it surely can become worse.

Cotton is soft and durable, is absorbent it actually becomes stronger when wet.  It is one of the oldest natural fibers.  The best towels are made of 100% cotton.  Cotton is used in jeans, shirts, dresses, underwear, bath robes, bedding and again towels.  Cotton is also used as insulation in homes.
It accepts dyes easily and is great for people with sensitivites to chemicals or other materials. Few  people are allergic to cotton.  And it is biodegradeable and kind to our planet.
